My name is Steve Ellis. I create websites, help people to improve or develop their existing websites through design, usability and SEO, short for Search Engine Optimization, a term that is bandied about way too much these days and that really isn’t the black art it is claimed to be by many.

On occasion I am called upon to offer advice and tips on general PC and internet usage whether configuring an email client or simply how to get around day to day computer operations or how to use a search engine. It is all too easy to assume everyone on the planet knows all about the internet but even now, many people are new to it.

I first got involved with the internet some time in 1998 or 1BG (1 year Before Google) and became interested in web design back in the days of noisy, dial-up modems in mid 1999. Web design in those days was very different due to slow connection speeds. Photos and other images had to be compressed so small to load quickly that tiny, pixellated .gifs and .jpegs where the norm… png? what? It was also a time of many Under Construction pages and animated .gifs proudly proclaiming the site to be well and truly tacky! :O)

My first website was built using Microsoft Frontpage, a system I have grown to despise over the years as I have turned to using hand coded html styled with .css just using a plain text editor like notepad. Along the way I have used many types of WYSIWYG design software and Macromedia (now adobe) Flash for animations.

I was born at an early age in a place called Grimsby, on the east coast of England. I moved to France in 2005 where I continue to live along with Sarah my wife, our German Shepherd Holly, cat Bonnie, three geese – George, Gertie & Lucy along with a fourth (Titi Waah) that belongs to our French neighbours as well as several chickens (kept as pets and for their lovely fresh eggs).

I am registered under the French Auto Entrepreneur system (freelance, self employed) and run the number one website for Rental Properties In France. As that has settled down I have found a little more time to once again put some energy into web design for others.
